Atomic bombing of Nagasaki on August 9, 1945
The mushroom cloud of death resulting from the nuclear explosion over Nagasaki rises 18 km (11 mi, 60,000 ft) into the air from the hypocenter.
80,000 people perished by the end of 1945 as a result of this atomic bomb. Thousands continue to die even to this day as a result of leukaemia and cancer.
